Chiropractors are the spinal health experts that work to restore spinal biomechanics and nervous system function.  Beginning with taking a detailed patient’s case history provides the Chiropractor background about your health, such as surgeries, accidents, the onset of your condition, and other details relating to your current health. After discussing your specific problem and reviewing your case history, a thorough examination is performed that involves a chiropractic, orthopaedic and neurological examination.  Further tests such as x-rays may be required to provide further information on structural and functioning problems associated with your spine. Your examinations help identify areas of spinal dysfunction and areas of potential nervous system interference. The findings of your examinations are discussed and a care plan of chiropractic adjustments may be recommended.

The New Zealand Government’s Inquiry describes Chiropractic care as “remarkably safe.” Chiropractic has an excellent safety record and is a non-invasive, natural and conservative approach to healthcare. In relation to the treatment of neck and back pain, studies have shown that a course of chiropractic care was 250 times safer than a course of anti-inflammatory drugs.  Whilst Chiropractic has an excellent safety record based, no form of healthcare is entirely free of potential adverse effects.

A Chiropractic adjustment is the skill of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a biomechanical joint dysfunction. The aim of this safe and natural approach is to improve spinal function, improve nervous system function, and improve health.

There are many ways to deliver an adjustment.  Typically the chiropractor uses their hands or a specially designed instrument that delivers a fast and highly-accurate movement. Some adjusting methods are quick, whereas others require a slow, constant or indirect pressure.

Chiropractors are primary health care practitioners and therefore a referral is not necessary. GP’s are however increasingly referring to Chiropractors via the Chronic Disease Management Program, which allows those eligible up to 5 visits in a calendar year.

Chiropractic is safe for everyone from newborns to the elderly. Many parents choose to have their newborns checked for shoulder, hip or spine health problems as the birth process can often be a traumatic experience.  Regular chiropractic check-ups may identify problems and help avoid issues as the child grows. As we get older, chiropractic may help improve mobility, balance, co-ordination, vitality and endurance. More commonly in senior people chronic conditions such as arthritis and other chronic ailments can also be managed effectively with chiropractic care.

Yes! At Connect Chiropractic we see a range of people from all ages and stages of life. The techniques we utilise are appropriate for the particular age group and range from very gentle adjustments to a sports physical therapy based approach.

An Australian chiropractor will have completed five years of training at a university of an approved and accredited degree course. The five years may consist of a five-year Bachelor of Chiropractic, or it may consist of a three-year Bachelor degree followed by a two-year post-graduate Masters degree.

Chiropractic adjustments usually do not hurt. Adjustments to certain joints in the spine or extremities may feel slightly uncomfortable or restricted, however once the adjustment is performed you should not feel pain. In general, people enjoy being adjusted and like the way their body feels more relaxed after the adjustment.

With some adjustments you may feel or hear popping sounds from the spinal joints. This is simply caused by a gas release from the joint as movement is restored. Sometimes handheld instruments may be used and special techniques are used for adjusting infants and children. Whatever the technique, Chiropractors use skill, not force or strength, to conduct a safe, effective adjustment.

Chiropractic has a very high patient satisfaction rate with most people benefiting soon after beginning care however as individual as each of us are patient experience does vary from person to person.

Some people may feel slight soreness following their first few adjustments as the body begins to realign. Typically this is very mild and only lasts for a short time (24-48hrs) a bit like some sore muscles after you have started a new exercise. In general most people report they feel ’lighter’, more relaxed, have more vitality and sleep better.

The popping noise that is sometimes associated with certain adjusting techniques is due to gas (mainly carbon dioxide) being released from the joint and some techniques do not produce a sound at all.

Chiropractors are educated and trained to treat all neuromusculoskeletal (nerve, muscles, bones) problems of the body.

As well as assisting with back and neck pain, our Connect Chiropractic Chiropractors are also skilled in the treatment and rehabilitation of all types of joint injuries including feet, ankles, knees, hips, hand, elbow and shoulder problems.

Yes. Our chiropractic adjusting techniques are often modified to safely work around the areas of surgery that can assist with your recovery and rehabilitation.

Pain is a sign that something isn’t right. Pain is the way your body messages that a limit has been reached or a problem has developed. Whilst our body adapts, minor aches and pains are often shrugged off and the pain may go away for a period of time, however if the underlying problem remains unattended, the pain can return and potentially worsen until it becomes more difficult and potentially take longer to resolve.

Connect Chiropractic is a strong referral based practice. We welcome the opportunity to assist your friends and family members, contact the office today on 9512 5882 to find out more.
